Campaign against fortunetellers results in public repentance of Chechen woman

On the air of the Chechen TV Channel, Rovzan Yusupova, a resident of Gudermes, apologized for her engagement in the activities related to fortunetelling and witchcraft. Some Instagram users have criticized the public humiliation of the woman.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after in July, the Chechen authorities intensified the persecution of people who provided occult services the "Grozny" TV Channel showed at least eight stories in which local residents repented of their engagement in fortunetelling. So, on November 25, after a "warning conversation" with law enforcers, Khusain Gatsaev, a resident of the Naursky District, repented of providing occult services. Despite the numerous detentions of fortunetellers and their public apologies, interest in occultism in the Chechen republic does not fade away, authors of the TV story on the "Grozny" TV Channel admit.

For many years, Rovzan Yusupova, a resident of Gudermes, was engaged in the "activity damned by the Almighty Allah," and the woman put "the reputation of her family" at risk, the "Grozny" TV Channel reported in its story. Rovzan Yusupova explained that she was trying to improve the family relations of her clients and was engaged in fortunetelling.

Ilyas Akhmetkhadjiev, the deputy chief of the OVD (Interior Division) for the Gudermes District, urged residents of Chechnya "not to appeal to charlatans."

The TV Channel should not have publicly humiliated the old woman, notes Instagram user _____lllll_____sss_____.
