Protesters near South-Ossetia border demand freedom to Gaprindashvili

On December 15, activists, politicians and colleagues of the Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili held a protest action on the border with South Ossetia demanding the release of the arrested medic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 15, a South-Ossetia court ruled to put Vazha Gaprindashvili, the president of the Georgian Association of Orthopaedic and Traumatologists, in custody for two months.

According to assumption of his relatives, he went to the Akhalgori District of South Ossetia to help Tamar Gigauri, whom local authorities did not allow to take to Tbilisi for treatment.

The participants of the support action gathered in the village of Odzisi, Dusheti District, near the border with South Ossetia. They demanded to release the doctor and launched white balls with a medical gown attached to them into the air, the Georgian TV Channel One wrote on its website.

The action was at least a hundred people strong.

Activists first gathered in the First Republic Square in Tbilisi, and from there drove by cars to Odzisi. At the end of the action, they lined up and chanted "Freedom to the doctor Vazha!" Many wore T-shirts with this appeal and doctor's photo.
