Ingush CCE investigates Zelimkhan Khangoshvili's case since 2008 - Interfax

Starting from 2008, the activities of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, who was recently murdered, were investigated by the Centre for Combating Extremism (also known as CCE or Centre "E") of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ingushetia in a case on involvement in terror acts on the territory of the Ingush republic, the "Interfax" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a native of the Pankisi Gorge, who participated in the second Chechen campaign, was shot dead in Berlin on August 23. A 49-year-old Russian citizen was arrested on suspicion of the murder.

Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was suspected of involvement in terror acts committed on the territory of Ingushetia, and in connection with that case, the Ingush CCE had been investigating his activities starting from 2008, reports a source from the law enforcement bodies. "Ingush law enforcers had been looking for him for a long time and working out operational information on the possible location of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili," the "Interfax" quotes a law enforcer as saying.

According to another source from the law enforcement bodies, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was also well known in Chechnya, where he was a member of a grouping involved in commitment of a number of terror acts.

It should be noted that the information about the Zelimkhan Khangoshvili's involvement in terrorist groupings appeared after German law enforcers put forward a version about the involvement of the Russian and Chechen authorities in his murder.
