FSB reports on arrest of members of grouping involved in terror act in Makhachkala

The Russian FSB reported on the detention of members of the "Sharapov" criminal grouping, which included Dagestani policemen, advocates, and militants. According to investigators, the criminal grouping committed a terror act in Makhachkala in 1998.

Members of the "Sharapov" criminal grouping were engaged in killings of entrepreneurs and law enforcers, kidnappings of people, as well as in acts of extortion, robbery, and banditry in Dagestan and Moscow in 2007-2015. "Their crimes were particularly cruel and provoked a wide public resonance," the FSB reported.

Among the 250 members of the criminal grouping, there were employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, members of the Advocates' Chamber of Dagestan, and militants. In particular, the members of the criminal grouping were involved in the terror act committed in Makhachkala in 1998, the FSB reports on its official website.

On September 4, 1998, in Makhachkala, an explosion killed about 20 people and injured more than 60 others. The terror act was directed against Said Amirov, the head of the city administration, but he was not injured.

In the period from August to November 2019, four members of the "Sharapov" criminal grouping were detained in Dagestan and Moscow, and they were placed into custody.
