Ingush Instagram users criticize Orstkhoi teip member for video about border with Chechnya

A member of the Orstkhoi teip (family clan) claimed that the disputed territories on the border with Ingushetia belonged to Chechnya. His statement provoked a negative reaction from Ingush users of Instagram.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2018, protests started in Ingushetia after an agreement on the border between the republics. A new phase of protests began on March 26, 2019. In the autumn of 2018 and in March, mobile Internet was not available at the place of the protest actions.

On November 20, a video record with the statement voiced by a member of the Orstkhoi teip was published in Instagram public accounts "Chechnya Online" and "ChP Chechnya".

Authors of some comments under the video used harsh words to criticize the member of the Orstkhoi teip. In particular, user h___s___06___djeirho left a derogatory comment concerning the age of the Orstkhoi teip member. "Who gave you the right to decide what and where happened? ... The Kremlin has been playing with our Ingush lands for 300 years, and your memory is too short," the user wrote.

Initially, the entire current Galanchozhsky District, and not just the territory recently transferred to Chechnya, was a part of the Ingush District of the Terek Region in the 19th century, states Ingush historian Nurdin Kodzoev.

"Later, those territories were included in the Argun District, which later became a part of Chechnya. In general, the Argun District was also formed on the territory of the Ingush tribes. This fact is also recorded in Russian documents of that period," Nurdin Kodzoev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Some members of the Orstkhoi teip voice statements in favour of the position of Chechnya, since they are "bribed" by its leaders, the expert suggests.
