Kadyrov elected head of Chechnya Peoples' Assembly
Ramzan Kadyrov, chairman of the Chechen government, was elected the Chair of the Assembly of the Peoples of the Chechen Republic. The decision was made today by the members of the Board of the Assembly of the Republic's nations at their first congress, the ITAR-TASS reports.
Earlier, a source of the "Vedomosti," close to the government of the Republic, supposed that the forum may address Ramzan Kadyrov asking him to become president of Chechnya.
The Congress of Assembly of the Peoples of Chechnya was convoked with the aim "to strengthen inter-ethnic relations in the Republic." It is attended by 300 delegates from all the Districts of Chechnya.
The Assembly of the Peoples of the Chechen Republic was founded in May 2003. The then head of Chechnya Akhmat Kadyrov was elected to be its Chair. After the death of Kadyrov-Senior, the work of the Assembly was suspended, to resume its activities in August 2006. Now, it is headed by Dukvakh Abdurakhmanov, speaker of the People's Assembly of the Republic's Parliament.
