Ingush girl harassed after taking part in TV show

A performance of Ingush native Ragda Khanieva in "The Voice" TV show provoked disputes in social networks about the violation of Vainakh decency rules. Critics demanded from Ragda Khanieva, who hugged strange men, not to call herself a native of Ingushetia anymore.

The jury praised the performance of Ragda Khanieva in the Russian "The Voice" song show. After praising the girl, Sergey Shnurov, a member of the jury, took her by the hand. The video posted on YouTube shows that then Ragda Khanieva was hugged by Polina Gagarina and Valery Syutkin, and Valery Meladze took her hand and kissed her on the cheek.

Some social network users noted the modesty of Ragda Khanieva, but there were also commentators who disagreed with the above opinion. "What culture does she show? She is hugging and kissing men," objected user Diii Dishka.

The Muslim nations, especially Ingush and Chechen people, have no traditions allowing women shaking hands with men, explains Marat khazrat Alimov, the Deputy Mufti of Moscow.

"According to Sharia, a woman should not give a hand to a man who has a wife and children. Moreover, to a man who uses bad language when singing songs (Sergey Shnurov, note of the 'Caucasian Knot'). From the point of view of Islam, his performance activities lead to a vicious way of life," the "360" TV Channel quotes Marat khazrat Alimov as saying.

Critics from Ingushetia "got accustomed to seeing women in a more archaic format," noted Ragda Khanieva herself. "They don't like the fact that a girl from Ingushetia is engaged in creative activities and lives in Moscow. I follow the main customs. Meanwhile, my parents allow me realizing myself, and they give me freedom of choice," said Ragda Khanieva as quoted by the "360" TV Channel.
