Daughter of arrested Azerbaijani oppositionist states threats addressed to her father

Tofig Yagublu, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, was tortured after detention and now receives threats of execution for his oppositional activities, his daughter Nigyar Khazi has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Tofig Yagublu was arrested for 30 days on October 19 after an oppositional rally in Baku.

"They demanded from my father to quit the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) and stop his political activities. If he refuses, they threaten to subject him to severe torture," Ms Khazi has stated.

She has added that if he will be tortured, the responsibility will fall on the country's authorities.

"The father was tortured immediately after detention; then, they also demanded from him to abandon his political activities. The threats were addressed to our family too. It is probably the same now. Despite all this, the father remains cheerful," said Nigyar Khazi.

She also said that on November 11, law enforcers appeared near their house. Nigyar suggested that they came to detain her brother, Ragim Yagublu, a member of the "Musavat" Party. "But it's all in vain; they can't break us," she said.

Let us note here that Seimur Khazi, Nigyar's husband and Deputy Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), is also serving a 30-day arrest.

Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader and a member of the Coordination Centre of the NCDF, has note on the Facebook in his comment on Nigyar's statement that "the regime is crossing all the red lines."
