Chechnya: authorities' plans to restrict wedding corteges trigger locals' scepticism
It's senseless to limit the number of cars in wedding corteges, since most accidents involving them do without grave consequences, Grozny residents believe. In their opinion, it's just enough to send a patrol car to accompany a wedding motorcade.
Earlier, the Chechen GIBDD (traffic police) branch suggested restricting the number of cars in wedding corteges for reasons of safety of participants thereof. According to the branch, the decision was prompted by a recent major accident involving a wedding cortege.
Local residents' opinions about the idea to limit the number of cars in wedding motorcades have diverged. Some found that it was really necessary, while others have criticized the idea.
Those dissatisfied with the restriction note that fatal accidents involving them are very rare.
Suleiman, a local, has noted that the wedding is one of the most memorable events in every family life.
"They've banned shooting at weddings, as well as bride abduction and drinking alcohol; now, they got to wedding corteges," said Israil, another local resident.
Let us remind you that in October 2016, it was announced that officials of the Chechen Ministry of Culture of Chechnya would monitor the observance of folk traditions and decency at weddings. In particular, it is forbidden to drink alcohol at Chechen weddings, to open fire and appear in clothes inappropriate for the Chechen mentality.
