Tofig Yagublu beaten up after arrest

Tofig Yagublu, a member of the coordination centre of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), was beaten up after being detained by law enforcers on the day of the rally in Baku on October 19, said his daughter Nigyar Khazi. According to the advocate, Nemat Kerimli, Yagublu has his rib, shoulder and leg damaged.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 19, in central Baku, law enforcers dispersed an unsanctioned protest action, announced by the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) and the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA). By using violence and force, policemen detained Ali Kerimli, the PFPA, oppositional politicians Tofig Yagublu, Vakhid Magerramli and others. The Baku police reported 60 detainees; 42 of them were released after warning.

In the evening on October 19, Tofig Yagublu, a member of the NCDF's coordination centre, was administratively arrested for 30 days by the ruling of the Nasimi District Court on charges of disobeying law enforcers, Tofig's daughter, Nigyar Khazi, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on October 21.

According to her story, after her father was detained during the protest rally on October 19, law enforcers handcuffed him, threw him face down on the floor, and beat him up for an hour.

The advocate, Nemat Kerimli, has confirmed the information about the Tofig Yagublu's beating.

"Tofig Yagublu shows signs of beatings, bruises and sores. His left eye has suffered especially seriously. His rib, shoulder and leg were injured. He moves with difficulty. He was beaten ..., demanding to make a statement to the video camera that he repented and refused to criticize the authorities," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
