Pogorov's detention not confirmed

Akhmed Pogorov, one of the leaders of the Ingush opposition, whose detention was reported on October 11 by anonymous sources, is at large, an advocate, Magomed Bekov, and an activist, Izabella Evloeva, have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 11, the information about Pogorov's detention appeared in an anonymous Telegram channels associated with law enforcers.

On April 27, 2019, Akhmed Pogorov, a co-chair of the World Congress of the Ingush People and a former head of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), was put on the federal wanted list within the case of the March protest action in Magas. Law enforcers conducted at least eight searches in houses of Pogorov and his relatives.

Akhmed Pogorov's detention was not confirmed, the Ingush activist, Isabella Evloeva, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. She believes that by spreading information about his detention law enforcers are trying to reach him by tapping his relatives' phones. "In this way, they want to find his whereabouts," Ms Evloeva has noted.

On October 12, she wrote in her Facebook page that Pogorov is at large. "The information about the detention of Akhmed Pogorov, one of the Ingush protest leaders, is a fake. According to his closest relatives, Akhmed is at large and in good health," Izabella Evloeva has reported.

The information was confirmed by the advocate, Magomed Bekov, in his Facebook page.
