In Grozny, students and state servants forced to take part in subbotnik before City Day

For two days in a row, employees of municipal organizations of Grozny were taken to remove construction waste in the new dwelling settlement of Ortsin-Mokhk; while students' classes were cancelled because of subbotniks.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Chechnya, employees of budget-funded organizations and civil servants repeatedly complain that they are forced to take part in collective events organized by the authoritiessubbotniks, rallies and football matches. A refusal to participate therein threatens with dismissal from work.

Residents of Chechnya can avoid taking part in a subbotnik by sending another person to work instead of them. Sometimes a person can be replaced by a relative; and sometimes people hire a subbotnik replacement for them for money.

In Grozny, students and state servants employees are attracted to landscaping work on the eve of the City Day scheduled for October 5.

A source from the city administration has confirmed that large-scale subbotniks have been organized for the holiday in Grozny; and earlier the Mayor had announced a month for the sanitary cleaning of the city.

A large-scale involvement of Chechen residents in subbotniks is a continuation of the traditions of the Soviet era, although the republic's authorities can hire workers for money, said Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civil Assistance" Committee.
