Ex-president of Azerbaijan Academy of Science permitted to go abroad
The Azerbaijan General Prosecutor's office has officially permitted Academician Eldar Salaev, who is under investigation, to go abroad for medical treatment. This has been reported by the press-service of the Azerbaijan General Prosecutor's office to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The document relates that the 73-year-old academician is permitted to leave the country, despite legislative limitations for persons who are under measures of restraint. The appeal to President Ilham Aliev has been taken into consideration, the message runs.
For reference, Eldar Salaev, ex-president of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, was arrested on October 29, 2005 and charged with attempted coup-d'etat and mass disturbances. After persistent calls on the country's leadership by outstanding representatives of Azeri and world public, Salaev was released from prison due to his state of health. An appropriate resolution was adopted on November 16, 2005 by the court of Nasiminsk. However, all this time, Salaev has been prohibited to leave the country.
