Popular video blogger launches second round of debates on "Beslan Mothers" Committee

Such committees like the "Beslan Mothers" and "Voice of Beslan" speculate on the tragedy for the sake of "political pies", the designer Artemy Lebedev has stated in his video blog. This statement caused outrage among YouTube users and controversy over whether the state should help victims of terror acts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September, mourning events were held in North Ossetia on the 15th anniversary of the Beslan terror act. The "Beslan Mothers" Committee opened an account to raise money to help the victims of the tragedy, but, after facing a flood of negativity, they abandoned the idea without receiving any money.

On September 1, 2004, militants took 1128 hostages and kept them in the gym of School No. 1 in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia. In total, 334 of them, including 186 children, perished, other 810 persons were injured.

The "Beslan Mothers", and with it the "Voice of Beslan" Committee, were criticized by Artemy Lebedev, who commented the 15th anniversary of the terror act in his blog. "The committees that are endlessly created and subsequently speculating on the tragedy – 'Beslan Mothers' and 'Voice of Beslan' – <...> get multiplying in order to attract attention and receive as many 'political pies' as possible <...> instead of just burying their children and live on," he has stated.

The issue of whether the state should help terror act victims has triggered disputes. "What kind of 'pies'? Yes, the state now owes these mothers forever for its mistake," Gena Orlikov commented on Lebedev's words. "Let the victims file a lawsuit against Chechens – those were Chechens who mutilated them, not Putin or the policemen. It's very easy now to put everything on the authorities!" the user spartak aleshin wrote.
