Krasnodar brawlers-shooters report details of their torture by law enforcers

Shamal Madaev and Khalid Khamidov, natives of Chechnya, arrested after a mass brawl with shooting, told rights defenders that they had been beaten up and tortured with electricity after detention.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on August 21, a conflict broke out near the Vishnyakov marketplace in Krasnodar, as a result of which a local resident was killed and two other persons were wounded. Five people were arrested on charges of hooliganism, natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia among them.

Relatives of the arrested Shamal Madaev and Khalid Khamidov have turned to rights defenders claiming that Shamal and Khalid were beaten up and tortured after detention, Sergey Romanov, the head of the Krasnodar branch of the Committee against Torture (CaT), told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Madaev told rights defenders that he was taken to the building of some power structure, where policemen "used physical violence" and electric current to him, demanding to tell the whereabouts of other participants of the shootout.

Khalid Khamidov said that he rendered no resistance during detention, but, nevertheless, they began beating him up immediately. "He said that they began beating him on the way, and later, in the building, he was tortured," said Sergey Romanov, adding that the CaT has sent complaint about the crime to relevant bodies; and a check has been initiated.
