Baku: law enforcers suppress action in support of convicts under "Terter case"

At their protest action held in Baku, relatives of those convicted within the "Terter case" have demanded to return the case back for preliminary investigation and to release their convicted relatives. The action was stopped after police intervention.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during the inquiry into the "Terter case", eight suspects were tortured to death; later, four of them were posthumously rehabilitated, the human rights defender, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, has stated. At a meeting in Baku on May 27, family members of those perished and convicted stated that the criminal case against their relatives had been unjustified.

In Baku, a protest action of relatives of the figurants in the case of the events in the Terter District took place. On September 6, at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the protesters stated that a legal assessment should be given to the defendants' torture, the "Turan" News Agency reports.

A group of military servicemen and civilians was arrested in Baku on charges of collaborating with Armenian special services and preparing acts of sabotage. The detainees were suspected of "planning large-scale provocations against units of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) and dwelling settlements of the Terter District."
