Analysts see farce in challenges to duel disputes provoked by Ramzan Kadyrov

Challenges to duel disputes provoked by Ramzan Kadyrov, do not meet the traditions: no duels ever took place among Vainakh people and residents of Dagestan in past centuries, note historians. Ramzan Kadyrov provoked people with his statements on historical issues, believe human rights defenders.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, in his video appeal, Makhachkala resident Gadjimurad Isabekov provoked Ramzan Kadyrov for a duel dispute because of his statement about Imam Shamil.

Historian Sergey Arutyunov notes that if Ramzan Kadyrov accepts the challenge to a duel from an older person, then etiquette and concepts of military honour will dictate to him to give a head start to an older rival. According to the historian, the situation with the duel challenge to Ramzan Kadyrov looks like a farce, but if people take dueling seriously, then the only alternative to a duel is voluntary exile.

Alexei Malashenko, a scientist engaged in oriental studies, has not heard of the traditions of duels in Chechnya and Dagestan. The scientist does not take seriously the situation with the challenge to Ramzan Kadyrov.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civic Assistance Committee", criticized the leader of Chechnya for public statements on historical topics that he did not understand.

According to Svetlana Gannushkina, the best response from residents of Dagestan would be to completely ignore the Ramzan Kadyrov's statements.
