Conflict in Krasnodar raises the blood feud issue

Historically, Chechnya and Dagestan adhere to different principles of blood feud, but outside the republics this custom is not always applied, Orientalists have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the conflict occurred in Krasnodar at night on August 21; and a native of Dagestan died in a shootout. The police detained five suspects.

Chechens and Dagestanis have no common principles of blood feud: in Chechnya this issue is regulated by Adats, while in Dagestan, they mainly adhere to the Sharia Law principles, Mikhail Roschin, an Orientalist, has noted.

Mr Roschin did not rule out that the authority of Ramzan Kadyrov could influence the culprit of the incident, if the head of Chechnya finds it necessary to intervene in the situation. He reminded of the situation with a road accident committed by a native of Chechnya in Moscow.

Mr Roschin sees no reason to associate the conflict in Krasnodar with the inter-republican contradictions.

In the 19th-early 20th centuries, the blood feud existed throughout Northern Caucasus, Vladimir Bobrovnikov, another Orientalist, has pointed out. He did not rule out that the aggravation of the Dagestani-Chechen relations could also cause increased conflicts among national communities outside the republics.
