Head of Ingush Council of Teips acquitted under the case of Magas rally

The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has cancelled as illegal the ruling of the Magas Court to fine Malsag Uzhakhov, the head of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans), after the rallies in October 2018. This is already the second decision of Uzhakhov's administrative cases, quashed by a higher judicial instance.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Magas Court had tried twice to attract Mr Uzhakhov to administrative liability after the October 2018 protests. On July 3, 2019, the Ingush SC quashed one of the rulings to make the head of the Council of Teips accountable for participating in rallies.

According to the advocate, Djabrail Kuriev, the SC declared the ruling of the first-instance court illegal because of the absence of corpus delicti in Uzhakhov's actions.

The Ingush SC came to the conclusion that Uzhakhov was just present at the rally and posed no threat to law enforcers.

Let us remind you that after participating in the March rally in Magas, Uzhakhov was arrested within a criminal case on calling for riots and using violence against a state official. On July 2, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized Uzhakhov and four other protest leaders as political prisoners.
