Idea of renaming Kurchaloi District continues trend of "Akhmatization" of Chechnya
A Chechen theologian has proposed to rename the Kurchaloi District into the Akhmat one in honour of Ramzan Kadyrov's father. The proposal was made amid discussions about the personalities of Akhmat Kadyrov and Imam Shamil.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 12, the Chechen Parliament renamed Khosi-Yurt (Tsentaroi), the native village of Ramzan Kadyrov, in honour of his father.
The renaming of the village in honour of Akhmat Kadyrov testifies to the strengthening of the Kadyrovs' personality cult in Chechnya, said Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, Director of the Centre for Conflict Analysis and Prevention. Her point of view was shared by some residents of Chechnya.
Imam Abubakar Tovsultanov has stated that Kadyrov Senior "had elevated the Islamic religion and established normal life" in Chechnya.
The Tovsultanov's idea is unlikely to go unnoticed, Rosa, a local resident, has suggested.
"This appeal was made in order to show everyone that Akhmat Kadyrov enjoys people's love in Chechnya," said Lechi, a local resident.
The idea of renaming the Kurchaloi District fits into the logic of all previous acts of renaming made in honour of Akhmat Kadyrov in Chechnya, Mikhail Roschin, an Orientalist, believes.
Andrei Serenko, an expert of the Russian Society of Political Analysts, did not rule out that the theologian's initiative has to do with the 20th anniversary of the militants' invasion from Chechnya into Dagestan.
Such a "rebooting" of the image of Chechnya is being carried out along with the strengthening of the personality cult of Akhmat Kadyrov that has formed in the republic.
