GPO gets interested in Gadjiev's case
After the appeal of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (known as the HRC), the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Russia has initiated a check of the inquiry of the case of financing of terrorism, in which Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) edition, is a figurant.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev, the editor of one of the sections of the Dagestani "Chernovik", was arrested on June 18 within a terrorism financing case; however, in the opinion of Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the edition, Gadjiev has suffered for his articles on Islamic topics.
The decision to check the facts of the criminal case against Gadjiev was made by the GPO after the appeal thereto of the above HRC, the latter's website reports.
"We hereby ask you to take the case of Abdulmumin Gadjiev under personal control; and not only because his personal rights are violated, as a citizen, but also because he is a public figure and a journalist," the HRC's website quotes its appeal to the GPO.
The website also quotes the answer to the appeal received from the GPO of Russia. "Your appeal and the complaint of Agaev, M. B., the editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik", about the groundlessness of the criminal prosecution of the journalist Gadjiev, A. Kh., his non-involvement in terrorist activities, violations during the inquiry into his criminal case and on other issues have been considered," says the GPO's answer.
The GPO reports that a subordinate prosecutor's office was instructed to hold a check.
