HRC "Memorial" recognizes Ingush activist Zarifa Sautieva as a political prisoner

The charges brought by investigators against Ingush activist Zarifa Sautieva are groundless, she is being prosecuted for political reasons and should be released, declares the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". An advocate of Zarifa Sautieva complained about a ban for visits to her.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zarifa Sautieva is being kept under arrest since July 15. She is accused of using violence against public officers.

On July 22, the Council of Alims and Imams of Ingushetia called on the authorities of the republic to release Zarifa Sautieva.

Video records from the rallies prove that Zarifa Sautieva was not involved in an attack on law enforcers, and, on the contrary, she called on activists to stop the clashes, the HRC "Memorial" suggests.

The defence intends to appeal against the refusal of the investigators to lift the ban for visits to Zarifa Sautieva, her advocate Bilan Dzugaev reports.
