Authorities' report about help to elderly Grozny resident causes scepticism in Chechnya

Authorities have resolved the domestic problems of the 80-year-old Khamid Lorsanov, who receives no help from his children, the "Grozny" TV Channel has reported. However, local residents suggest that the authorities have used the difficulties of an elderly man for self-promotion.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after rains Lorsanov's yard was flooded; and he could not go outside. His eight children are living abroad, leaving their father without help.

The "Grozny" Chechen State TV and Radio Company (ChGTRK) tried to exploit the theme of morality, but the story has shown that Ramzan Kadyrov has failed to build a society based on traditional Chechen values, Alexei Malashenko, a political analyst, believes.

The YouTube channel of the ChGTRK "Grozny" posted a story that the problems of an elderly man had been solved by the city authorities and the Kadyrov Foundation.

Residents of Chechnya found the new story about Lorsanov superfluous. "I'm always amazed at how pathetically they present the provision of help to those in need by the republic's leadership," said Sakhib, a Grozny resident.

"The authorities promised to help Lorsanov, and they did it ... But repeating that this man has 10 children; that his sons live with their families in France ... Why should they humiliate the man once and again? No matter what they do, it is unpleasant for the father to hear bad things about his children," Maret, a woman from Grozny, believes.

"It wasn't worth it to make such a fuss out of that and disgrace his relatives," said Leyla, a local resident.
