Ingush activists stop hunger strike in Nalchik SIZO
Outraged by the information about the beating of Bagaudin Myakiev, a member of the Council of Ingush Teips, the activists, who went on a hunger strike in the Nalchik SIZO (pre-trial prison), decided to stop their protest after the meeting with the officials of the prosecutor's office, the members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Kabardino-Balkaria have informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 18, the advocate, Fatima Urusova, reported that Bagaudin Myakiev, who is kept in the Nalchik SIZO, was beaten up. Sources reported that other detainees went on a hunger strike "in solidarity with Myakiev."
On July 19, Mustafa Taukenov, a representative of the Ombudsperson under the Government of Kabardino-Balkaria, and members of the POC visited Bagaudin Myakiev at the SIZO. Myakiev and other arrested Ingush activists demand to be taken to Ingushetia and placed into a SIZO there, Ayes Burmamitov, a member of the POC, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
After the incident with Myakiev, a check was appointed, Mustafa Taukenov has added.
Mr Taukenov has confirmed that on July 18, 25 defendants went on a hunger strike due to the incident with Myakiev, but employees of the local prosecutor's office came to the SIZO and talked to the hunger-strikers, after which they stopped their protest action.
