Azerbaijani soldier wounded on border with Armenia
The Armenian armed forces shelled the Azerbaijani positions with large-calibre weapons and wounded soldier Djeikhun Bairamov, the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan reports today.
The incident occurred at 0:20 a.m. local time. Armenian soldiers shelled the positions of the border checkpoint near the village of Shikhly-2 in the Gazakh District. "The fire came from the side of the Zorakan village of the Noyemberyansky District of Armenia. In the course of the incident, soldier Djeikhun Bairamov was wounded, who was on combat duty at the border checkpoint of the Gazakh border guard unit. The soldier was immediately provided with medical assistance, and his life is not in danger," reported the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan as quoted by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
