Zarifa Sautieva arrested for two months

A Nalchik court has sent Zarifa Sautieva, an Ingush activist, detained within the case of clashes at a rally in Magas, to the SIZO (pre-trial prison) until September 11.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 12, law enforcers took the detained Zarifa Sautieva out to Nalchik. She faces an arrest within the criminal case on the use of violence against policemen at the rally in Magas, her advocate reported. Sautieva has become the first woman detained after rallies in Ingushetia.

Zarifa Sautieva, the deputy director of the Memorial complex to victims of repression in Nazran, took part in rallies against the change of the border with Chechnya. After the October protests, she claimed she had been dismissed for political reasons.

At the court session on July 15, Zarifa Sautieva complained about the circumstances of her detention and the staff of the "E" Centre (the Ingush Centre for Combating Extremism). According to her story, law enforcers threatened her.

At the courthouse, Sautieva's supporters expressed the hope that she would be sentenced to the house arrest, Ama Akhilgova wrote in her Facebook. The court ruled to arrest Sautieva until this September 11. "People are depressed," Magomed Metskhalo wrote in his Facebook page after the court ruling.
