Advocates request to release leaders of Ingush protest

The defence has requested investigators to stop the criminal prosecution of Akhmet Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, Malsag Uzhakhov, and Barakh Chemurziev, since the charges against them are baseless, an activists' advocate states.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that three leaders of the protests in Ingushetia, including Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, and Barakh Chemurziev, were arrested in the case on appeals for mass riots and use of violence against a public officer. Malsag Uzhakhov, the head of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans), and Ismail Nalgiev, the coordinator of the organization "Choice of Ingushetia", were arrested in the case on an attack on policemen. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized all five arrested activists as political prisoners.

"We came to the conclusion that the true motive for the prosecution of the activists is their authority in Ingushetia and beyond, and the accusation is false," states Vadim Klyuvgant, a partner at the Pen & Paper Bar Association.

"The spirit of those respected people is not broken, and they are determined to continue to serve the good of their people," the advocate emphasized.
