PFPA leader Ali Kerimli released from police after warning

Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was released from the police station 1.5 hours after his detention. He was warned about the inadmissibility of holding illegal processions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been taken to the police station after participating in the "Marathon of Solidarity", organized to raise funds to pay fines for participants of protest actions, reports Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the PFPA.

Ali Kerimli was detained at about 1:00 p.m. local time and released from the Binagadi district police department at about 2:30 p.m. He told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that law enforcers had a conversation with him at the police department.

"They claimed that we allegedly wanted to hold some kind of a procession, disrupt the operation of enterprises and institutions, and violate public order. I was warned about the inadmissibility of holding illegal processions. I explained to them that there was no illegal action. A charity marathon was held to raise funds to pay fines for the persons illegally punished for the implementation of freedom of assembly. The claims of the law enforcement bodies were absurd," stated Ali Kerimli.

He considers the warning issued to him to be illegal and intends to challenge it in court.
