In Makhachkala, activists hold picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev

In Makhachkala, the defence requested the court to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), who was suspected of financing terrorism. During the court hearing, supporters of the detained journalist held pickets.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 14, law enforcers detained Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly. Apart from him, two more persons were detained within the case of financing terrorism – Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charity fund, and Kemal Tambiev.

Today, "a crowd of the detained journalist's supporters has gathered in front of the building of the Soviet District Court," reported on his Telegram channel Pavel Chikov, the head of the international human rights group "Agora". "The defence requests the court to dismiss the motion filed by the FSB and release Abdulmumin Gadjiev, including due to the fact that he had not been involved in any crime," wrote Pavel Chikov. He has also explained that the detained journalist's interests are represented by Arsen Shabanov, a lawyer from the human rights group "Agora".

The picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev was held in front of the court building, reports "Ask Rasul" Telegram channel and posts a photo, depicting about two dozen people, of whom at least two are wearing T-shirts with the words reading: "I am/we are Abdulmumin Gadjiev".
