Three residents of Chechnya publicly apologize for drinking alcohol during Uraza-Bayram

The "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Company) has screened a story about three residents of the republic, who apologized for buying alcohol during the Muslim holiday. Social network users argued about whether a policeman could reprimand them for violating religious norms. Because of the actual "dry law" in force in Chechnya, young people had to go to Dagestan, but, nevertheless, could not escape public condemnation, local residents report.

The police held an educational talk with the brothers, Adam and Magomed Baziev, and their friend, Ramzan Israilov, after which they said that they repent of their actions. The father of Baziev brothers also condemned his sons.

Some commentators on the ChGTRK's page on the Instagram did not support the public condemnation of the young people for violating religious norms.

The local residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent have criticized the public humiliation of the young people who didn't violate any law. "Exposing three guys to universal shame only because they bought alcohol somewhere in Dagestan is nonsense," said Lechi, a former employee of one of republic's agencies.

"I am an adherent of healthy lifestyle and an opponent of alcohol and drugs; but I don't impose my opinion on anyone, as our authorities are trying to do ... We have already come to a complete insanity with it," Zaindi, a Grozny resident, believes.
