Petition in defence of Azerbaijani journalist Gadjiev published

During the first hour after posting, the petition demanding to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an employee of the edition "Chernovik" (Draft), gained more than 100 signatures. According to some information, apart from Gadjiev, two other persons were detained within the case of financing terrorism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that law enforcers searched Gadjiev's home and detained him. According to a law enforcement source, he is suspected of transferring money to the accounts of Abu Umar Sasitlinsky, a Dagestani preacher suspected of financing terrorists through "charitable foundations."

Today, the petition entitled "Freedom to journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev, father of many children!" has appeared on the "Change.org" website, addressed to Russian authorities. The articles written by Gadjiev call for peace and observance of laws, Arsen Magomedov, the author of the petition, asserts.

"Given his social position and journalistic activities, there are grounds to believe that Abdulmumin Gadjiev is innocent," Mr Magomedov has written.

Gadjiev's case is just one example, when a person, who had transferred money to charitable announcements, is brought to criminal responsibility, the petition says.

Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev have also been detained within the case of financing terrorism, the "Interfax" reports, citing its source. According to the source, Rizvanov headed the "Ansar" charity foundation and faced trial on a similar charge. He "raised money and sent them abroad to the militants."
