NKR accused Azerbaijan of 220 shelling attacks during the week

In the period from May 26 to June 1, units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan fired over 3500 shots at the positions of the Defence Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), its Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, Azerbaijan claimed 22 shelling attacks on its positions undertaken by Armenia and from the territories controlled by the NKR. In its turn, the NKR's MoD said that a soldier, Sipan Melkonyan, was killed by the fire delivered from the Azerbaijani side.

Within the week, Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire regime for 220 times, says to the website of the NKR's MoD.

The MoD has threatened to respond to the soldier's killing. "The enemy's provocation won't remain unanswered; and the consequences will be painful," the statement says.

It should be noted that the NKR has recently fixed an increase of tensions in the conflict zone. On May 12-18, 80 attacks were recorded; and on May 19-25, there were 120 shelling attacks. The Azerbaijani MoD reports of ceasefire violations on the everyday basis. From May 26 to June 1, Azerbaijan, as calculated by the "Caucasian Knot", counted 159 shelling attacks, undertaken from Armenia and from the territories controlled by the NKR authorities.
