Abkhaz oppositionists block republic's highway
In Abkhazia supporters of the opposition have blocked the highway near the village of Tamysh and the bridge over the Bzyb River.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, 2019, supporters of Aslan Bzhaniya, the oppositional leader, came out to a rally near the parliament building, demanding to postpone the presidential election in Abkhazia due to the illness of Mr Bzhaniya, an oppositional candidate. After the Abkhaz parliament refused to postpone the election, the Abkhaz opposition announced the start of an endless protest action.
"The republic's highway near the village of Tamysh and the bridge in the dwelling settlement of Bzypta have been blocked according to the general civil disobedience and the state of emergency in the country," David Gobechiya, a resident Abkhazian, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
A photo has appeared in social networks showing dozens of people standing on the highway, and a resulting traffic jam.
