Pickets against torture to be held in Dagestan on June 26

On Monday, June 26, pickets in protest against torture applied by the Dagestan law-enforcement agencies with regard to persons under investigation are to be held in Makhachkala. The event is being organized by the "Otechestvo" Union of Public Associations and devoted to International day of supporting the victims of torture.

The first picket will be held at 10 a.m. in front of the republic's prosecutor's office, at 11 a.m. in front of the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs, and at 12.00 - on the central square of Makhachkala.

The notification on the pickets has been filed in advance at the administration of Makhachkala, the Dagestan capital.

It is expected that similar actions of protest organized by human rights organizations "Memorial," Moscow Helsinki Group and the movement "For Human Rights" will be held across the country.
