Doctors report state of victims to clashes in Pankisi

There are no threats to the lives of the policemen hospitalized after clashes with opponents of the construction of a hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in the Pankisi Gorge, reported the spokesperson of the Telavi Hospital.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 21, in Georgia, several hundreds of residents of the Pankisi Gorge gathered for a spontaneous rally in the village of Birkiani in the Akhmeta District to prevent the planned construction of the small "Khadori-3" HPP. During the protest action, clashes occurred between protesters and law enforcers.

16 people injured in the confrontation in the Pankisi Gorge still stay at the Telavi Referral Hospital. The victims are mostly policemen who got traumatic brain injuries. Their conditions are satisfactory and no surgical intervention is required, reports doctor Maya Mrelashvili from the Telavi Referral Hospital.

"One of the victims has been discharged this morning. The remaining 16 patients still stay at the hospital. Their lives are not in danger," the "InterPressNews" quotes today Maya Mrelashvili as reporting.
