Resident of Chechnya sentenced for involvement in Syrian militant groupings

The North-Caucasian Military Court found that Shamil Gabzaev, a resident of Chechnya, recruited his acquaintances to participate in the Syrian conflict on the side of militants, and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment. The defendant pleaded not guilty.

According to investigators, in Grozny, Shamil Gabzaev met his two acquaintances and urged them to leave for Syria to fight on the side of the militants. The criminal case was investigated under the article on "assistance in terrorist activities."

During the investigation, 24-year-old Shamil Gabzaev pleaded guilty, but later he retracted his initial confession and said that he had been badly beaten by policemen during his detention, the "DonDay.ru" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, a court sentenced a resident of Dagestan to six years of imprisonment for offering his minor girl acquaintance to fight in Syria on the side of the militants.
