Relatives of Akhmed Barakhoev and rights defenders concerned over his hunger strike

Relatives failed to convince 64-year-old Akhmed Barakhoev to stop his hunger strike. It lasts eight days and threatens his health state, reports today Ilez, a son of the Ingush Elder.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 4, Akhmed Barakhoev, a member of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans), who was serving his administrative arrest in Nalchik, went on hunger strike. Doctors examine Akhmed Barakhoev twice a day. On the seventh day of his hunger strike, the activist did not complain about his health state, an advocate of Akhmed Barakhoev reported on April 10.

Three leaders of the protests in Ingushetia ‑ Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, and Barakh Chemurziev were detained after the rally in Magas. Starting from April 3, they are serving 10 days of their administrative arrests in Nalchik.

The hunger strike can seriously affect the health state of Akhmed Barakhoev, since even before his arrest, he complained of heart and leg pains, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by Ilez Barakhoev.

"The father needs food more than a young man. His hunger strike has been lasting for 8 days already. Akhmed is 64 years old, his whole family tried to persuade him to stop his hunger strike, but he sharply stopped us," said the activist's son.

The family members saw Akhmed Barakhoev yesterday, on April 10, during the appealing against the sentence in court, reported Ilez Barakhoev. According to him, the relatives again tried to warn the activist about the possible effects of the hunger strike on his health state, but he demanded to stop discussing the topic.
