NKR: initiative of "Sasna Tsrer" provokes discontent of pro-government parties
The "Sasna Tsrer" Party, which organized the collection of signatures for the annexation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) to Armenia, reported that it had collected 230 signatures in support of the initiative. Three parties in the parliament of the unrecognized republic condemned the collection of signatures and spoke for the independence of the NKR.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by Gegam Grigoryan, a coordinator of the "Sasna Tsrer" Party, that a lot of people would like to sign up for the annexation of the NKR to Armenia, but local residents fear of persecution.
"After the process of collecting signatures is completed, an appeal will be sent to the police and the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia to consider the wishes of the citizens living in Artsakh (the self-proclaimed name of Nagorno-Karabakh)," Gegam Grigoryan stated.
The parties in the NKR's Parliament, including "Free Homeland", ARF "Dashnaktsutyun", and "Democratic Party of Artsakh" issued a statement urging political forces to refrain from statements and actions degrading the system of values and traditions of the state.
"Recently, the activities of some political groups and individuals sometimes goes beyond the limits of political correctness and ignore the many years of work of our people in creating an independent state," declares the statement published on March 21 on the website of the NKR's National Assembly (Parliament).
The NKR was proclaimed on January 6, 1992, following a referendum, 99.89% of which voted in favour of the NKR's independence.
