Law enforcers ban Magas protesters from setting up tents

At least 2000 protesters have stayed in the square cordoned off by law enforcers in Magas; they were warned that the continuation of the rally was not sanctioned, said Magomed Mutsolgov, a human rights defender.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, the participants in the rally against the law on the referendum, organized by the social movement "Support of Ingushetia", expressed their distrust of the head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, and demanded his resignation. The time, for which the rally was sanctioned, expired, but some of the protesters stayed in the square, despite law enforcers' demands.

The participants of the rally adopted a six-point resolution. They demanded resignation of Yunus-Bek Evkurov; to investigate facts of corruption among the leadership of Ingushetia; to cancel the border agreement with Chechnya; to reject the amendments to the republic's law on the referendum; to return the direct elections and the territorial rehabilitation of the Ingush people as a repressed nation.

At least 2000 protesters would not disperse, Mr Mutsolgov, who is also the head of the "Mashr" human rights organization, has reported.

According to his story, activists wanted to set up tents in order to cook meals, but they were not allowed to do so by law enforcers.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
