Armenian political analysts: Nagorno-Karabakh to return to negotiating table

The return of Nagorno-Karabakh to the negotiating table proceeds from the interests of the peaceful settlement of the conflict, and Azerbaijan will have to agree to participate in the talks, state Armenian political analysts.

According to Akop Badalyan, an observer of the "Lragir.am", the former logic of the negotiations contradicted the interests of Armenia, therefore the new government declared the need for new principles.

"That contributes to the Nikol Pashinyan's statement on the Artsakh's return to the negotiations, as well as the statement on whether Azerbaijan is ready for mutual concessions," noted Akop Badalyan.

After coming to power, Nikol Pashinyan spoke in favour of returning Nagorno-Karabakh to the negotiating table. In January 2019, the Armenian Prime Minister announced the new policy to resolve the Karabakh conflict.

Political analyst Manvel Sargsyan agrees that the Armenia's approaches have changed after the change of power. He has noted that earlier, Azerbaijan used to resort to the tactics of military diplomacy in attempts to put pressure on Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group in order to get a beneficial solution.

It will be difficult for Azerbaijan to explain to the international community why the country does not want to talk to Nagorno-Karabakh, Manvel Sargsyan has added.

Political observer Stepan Safaryan believes that Azerbaijan will agree to the return of Nagorno-Karabakh to the negotiating table in order to break the deadlock in which it found itself after the four-day war in April 2016.
