Nagorno-Karabakh demands to reconsider format of peace negotiations

Nagorno-Karabakh should return to the negotiating table, and the Minsk Group co-chairs should propose new principles to resolve the conflict, say politicians in Stepanakert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 28, Ilham Aliev and Nikol Pashinyan met at the CIS summit and decided to create a mechanism of operational communication to prevent violations of the truce in the conflict zone. The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs called on the parties to the conflict to abandon "inflammatory rhetoric" and step up efforts to prepare the population for peace.

The process of resolving the conflict around Nagorno-Karabakh is based on the Madrid Principles, which were put forward by the OSCE Minsk Group (MG) in Madrid in 2007 and updated in 2009. Nagorno-Karabakh is not involved in the negotiations.

Nagorno-Karabakh should be involved in the negotiations for the results, stated Masis Mailyan, Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, in his interview to the Public TV.

"In 2019, we cannot make decisions being guided by the logic of 1991 and go back to the Soviet past," said Ashot Gulyan, the speaker of the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh.

"The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs do not recognize the Artsakh Republic as a party to the negotiations. Azerbaijan rejects any proposal," noted Arzik Mkhitaryan, the chair of the commission on foreign relations of the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh, the "Aysor" reports.
