Leaders of Salafi mosque in Makhachkala call on to stop pressure on parishioners

The members of the public council and the Imam of the "Tangim" mosque in Makhachkala have complained about regular law enforcers' raids and detentions of parishioners. On March 12, they plan to meet the republic's prosecutor.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that law enforcers' raids are held near the mosque in General Omarov Street almost every Friday. On February 22, they detained four mosque parishioners and held another raid near the mosque located in the settlement of Semender.

The members of the public council and the Imam of the mosque have that the parishioners are labelled as "extremists." The "Tangim" mosque is considered to be a Salafi one; and it is not supervised by the local Muftiate.

Human rights defenders treat detentions of parishioners near the mosque as a form of pressure on the Salafi community of Dagestan and as a catalyst for the radicalization of its members.
