Ingush CC obliges to solve problems of migrants from Chechnya

The provisions of the Ingush housing programme, which prohibit forced migrants from Chechnya to receive housing in Ingushetia, are contrary to the Constitution of Ingushetia. This was reported by the Constitutional Court (CC) of the region, which has obliged the Ingush Parliament to solve the migrants' housing problem.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February 2018, about 200 forced migrants from Chechnya to Ingushetia complained that they had lost their refugee status and the right to receive housing, having received scanty compensations. The head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, explained the arisen difficulties by the 2015 amendments to the law "On Forced Migrants", according to which those who have received compensation are deprived of the refugee status.

The application to the Ingush CC was filed on behalf of Madina Dzortova, the head of the initiative group of forced migrants from Chechnya, with the assistance of lawyers from the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

Let us remind you that on February 14, 2018, a picket of forced migrants from Chechnya was held outside the State Duma building in Moscow. The Ingush leader, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, demanded to deal with "the politicized action aimed at swaying the situation" in Ingushetia and to "establish all its participants."
