Dagestani commission finds problem section on border with Chechnya

A participant of the trip arranged by the commission on the demarcation of the Dagestani borders reported about a dispute between a local entrepreneur and residents of Chechnya over construction at the border.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 27, members of the commission on border demarcation, headed by Ekaterina Tolstikova, Deputy Prime Minister of Dagestan, left for the Babayurt, Khasavyurt, and Novolak Districts to discuss with members of the local administration the border demarcation process.

Earlier, the authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan have reached an agreement to define the borders between the republics. Magomed Daudov, the speaker of the Chechen parliament, argued that the authorities in both regions did not ask each other for concessions to the territories. However, on February 7, it became known about the claims of Chechnya to a land plot near the village of Mekhelta in the Gumbet District. Residents of the villages of Ansalty in the Botlikh District and Gakko in the Tsumada District also stated that there were disputed territories on the border with Chechnya.

The trip was arranged for informational purposes, and the commission did not make any decisions about the territories, journalist Malik Butaev, who participated in the trip, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to him, officials from the Ministry of Property showed a satellite map to members of regional assemblies and residents of border villages, and local residents showed how they understood the border between subjects. "An official from the 'Dagtekhkadastr' wrote down the places of difference," explained Malik Butaev.

The commission members have also visited a section of the border between the village of Yaman-Su in the Novolak District and the village of Zamai-Yurt in the Nozhai-Yurt District of Chechnya, where a commercial facility of a resident of the Yaman-Su village is located at the very border between the republics. A half of the facility is located in the territory of the Nozhai-Yurt District, and that fact causes a dispute between the entrepreneur and residents of the Chechen village, the journalist reports. "The entrepreneur wants to expand [his enterprise]. The villagers are making obstacles to his construction," explained Malik Butaev.
