Dagestani commission voices out details of border demarcation with Chechnya

Today, the commission, headed by Ekaterina Tolstikova, a Vice-Premier of Dagestan, went to the three districts bordering on Chechnya to discuss the border demarcation with members of local self-governments. The commission includes a historian and a journalist delegated by activists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan agreed to define the borders between the republics. Magomed Daudov, the speaker of the Chechen parliament, argued that the authorities in both regions did not ask each other for concessions to the territories. However, on February 7, it became known about the claims of Chechnya to a land plot near the village of Mekhelta in the Gumbet District. Residents of the villages of Ansalty in the Botlikh District and Gakko in the Tsumada District also stated that there were disputed territories on the border with Chechnya.

As explained by Murad Aliev, the Deputy Minister for Property and Land Relations, the task of the commission is to coordinate the future border line with district administrations and pre-border villagers. "First, we'll meet people in the district centre, because we already have a cadastral engineering map of the border' we'll show it. If there are questions, we'll go to the place; and if they know their area, we'll discuss problems on the spot", Mr Aliev is quoted as saying.

Earlier, the head of the Novolak District said that the border documents were planned to be ready in late March, the Ministry's Telegram channel has reported today.

"There were no difficulties in the Babayurt District; and the border issue there is settled," says the today's message posted on the "Ask Rasul" Telegram channel.
