Georgian Prosecutor's Office not to disclose details of Archpriest Mamaladze's case
On February 26, the Prosecutor's Office dismissed a request filed by the Patriarchate of Georgia to make public the materials of the case against Giorgi Mamaladze, sentenced on the charge of attempting to poison the Patriarch's secretary.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 5, 2017, the court found Giorgi Mamaladze guilty of plotting a murder of the Georgian Patriarch's secretary and illegal possession of weapons and sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment. On August 9, 2018, Mamaladze asked the president for pardon, but was not put on the pardon list. A Mamaladze's complaint was sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg.
On February 26, the Patriarchate of Georgia posted on its website a statement in which it called on the Prosecutor's Office to make an exception and make public the investigation materials in the case against Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze.
"We would like the investigation materials to be made public in order to avoid any misunderstanding. Especially although the Patriarchate was not really a party during the investigation, the developing events were directly related to it. We hope that the competent authorities will take into account the situation and take the requested step as an exception," stated the Patriarchate of Georgia as quoted by the "News-Georgia".
On February 26, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia dismissed the request of the Patriarchate to make public the materials of the case against Giorgi Mamaladze.
