Former Guantanamo Bay prisoner found in Piatigorsk
Alexandra Zernova, a lawyer from London, UK, who together with the lawyer Clive Stafford Smith acts on behalf of Kabardino-Balkaria resident Rasul Kudayev in an international suit of former Guantanamo Bay prisoners against the US government, has informed by phone from London that she finally managed earlier today to find out the whereabouts of her defendant who had been brought away from a Nalchik temporary detention isolator a month ago.
Ms Zernova says that she applied to investigator Yevgeny Kotliarov who is directly in charge of Mr Kudayev's case and Aleksei Sovrulin, chief of the investigation group of the Russian Prosecutor's Office for the South federal district. She also called the reception of the chief of staff for the republican president, but no one told her where her defendant was at the moment.
She only got the answer from an ordinary employee of the detention isolator who said that Rasul Kudayev had been brought away to Piatigorsk, Stavropol territory, where at the moment he was kept in the White Swan prison. The woman also remarked that this was not permanent, but she did not know when he would be brought back.
