Court bans advocate of journalists beaten up in Ingushetia to get acquainted with case files

The court in Magas refused to satisfy the complaint about the investigators' refusal to provide the case files about the attack on journalists on the Chechen-Ingush border in 2016, Andrei Sabinin, a lawyer from the "Agora" has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 9, 2016, in Ingushetia, near the border with Chechnya, unidentified persons attacked and beat up eight human rights defenders and journalists, as well as the van driver of the Joint Mobile Group (JMG) of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT). The victims are convinced that the attack was organized by people close to the leadership of Chechnya.

Andrei Sabinin, a lawyer of the international human rights group "Agora", who represents the interests of Oystein Windstad, a correspondent of the Norwegian edition "Ny Tid", Egor Skovoroda from the "Mediazona" and the journalist Alexandrina Elagina, filed a complaint against the investigators to the court. According to Mr Sabinin, the court found the investigators' refusal to let his study the case files legitimate, the "Kavkaz.Realii" reports.

According to experts, one of the goals of the attack on journalists was to bring discord in the relationships of Ramzan Kadyrov and the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov.
