Journalist Idris Yusupov detained for filming law enforcers' raid in Makhachkala

Idris Yusupov, an employee of the Dagestani newspaper "Novoye Delo" (New Cause), was brought to a police station after filming the detention of three persons near a Salafi mosque in Makhachkala. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) does not confirm the information about the believers' detention.

On December 22, 2017, law enforcers already detained Idris Yusupov for filming a police raid near a mosque in Makhachkala. He was accused of disobeying a policeman's order.

Idris Yusupov reports he was detained after he was filming the detention of mosque-goers after the Friday prayer. According to him, before his detention, the policemen detained three young people who had left the mosque.

Magomed Magomedov, a journalist of the "Novoye Delo", associated the detention of his colleague with his professional activities.

"Regular preventive measures" are held in the city, the Dagestani MIA reports.

Let s remind you that in Makhachkala, believers of the Salafi mosque in General Omarov (Hungarian Soldiers) Street were regularly detained on Fridays in December 2017 and January 2018. Rights defenders treated the detentions as a form of pressure on the Salafi community of Dagestan and a factor accelerating its radicalization.
