Prosecutor takes time-out to respond to Titiev's defence
Today, the state prosecutor has asked to give him time to prepare a response to Oyub Titiev's advocates, who demanded to exclude the package with drugs from the list of proofs, which, according to investigators, was seized from rights defender's car.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the case of Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial", has been considered by the Shali City Court since July 19, 2018. On January 28, 2019, the court rejected all the defence's motions, in particular, a request to conduct a technical examination of the video surveillance cameras and an investigative experiment reconstructing the situation in which a policeman found marijuana in Titiev's car.
On January 11, Oyub Titiev, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny, was arrested on the charge of drug possession, and his case is being considered by the court since July 19. He claims that the drugs were planted to him by law enforcers.
At the today's court session, the advocate, Pyotr Zaikin, filed a motion for the recognition of the plastic bag containing narcotic drugs, seized from Titiev's car, to be invalid evidence. Other advocates, Marina Dubrovina and Ilya Novikov, supported this motion.
According to Mr Novikov, "the basic rules for handling material evidence were violated."
The prosecutor asked the court to give him time to prepare the prosecution's position. After that, the court announced a break until 10 a.m. Moscow time on February 6, says the message posted in the Telegram-channel of the HRC "Memorial".
